Long before we could speak, our bodies understood the language of touch. If fortunate, we experienced how it felt to feel safe and held. As adults, our bodies continue to respond to the power of touch in profound ways.
Gentle listening touch is at the heart of biodynamic craniosacral therapy. It helps support our body’s innate drive for self -regulation and balance. It offers a distinctive stillness which allows the body and mind to rest deeply, helping facilitate our potential for harmony and growth.
I offer craniosacral therapy (CST) to adults and young people over the age of 16. I regularly work with clients who are finding stress is having a negative impact on their health.
I have also treated clients with the following:
Muscular tension, aches and pains
A lack of energy or an excess of energy
Chronic health conditions
I have also worked with people who are recovering from surgery, accident or illness; and those engaged in talking therapies, as physically processing emotional issues and trauma held in the body supports the work of counselling and psychotherapy.
Please feel free to contact me if you would like to know if CST is suitable for you.
What to expect in a CST session
CST treatment is carried out through clothing, so there’s no need to get undressed. I use my skills to work with what your body is presenting. A light touch, no heavier than the weight of a hand resting lightly on the body, is used throughout the treatment.
Please allow an hour for a session and an extra twenty minutes or so on your first visit as I will need to take your details and listen to your reasons for seeking treatment.
We are all unique individuals so your experience of CST will be unique to you. Most people find it relaxing - the most common experience is a softening of physical tension and a greater sense of ease. Occasionally any ‘symptoms’ may temporarily become more intense during the 24 hours after a treatment, as the body makes adjustments. If possible, it is helpful to plan your treatment, so you don’t have anything too challenging to do afterwards.
I am often asked how many treatments I think will be needed. This will vary depending on your current state of health and your personal and medical history. In some cases, a couple of treatments is enough to see a positive change. Working toward resolving embodied trauma is longer term work. Your first session will give us an idea of how many treatments might be required and we can discuss what will be the best way forward at this point.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or would like to know if CST is suitable for you.
Craniosacral therapy is intended to complement not replace the relationship with your medical practitioner. If you have a particular medical concern, we would always recommend that you consult your GP. Craniosacral therapists do not diagnose or prescribe medication.
